On April 16, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $12 million of available funding to support the development of innovative technologies aimed at enhancing New York State’s electric grid. This funding is set to accelerate the creation and implementation of new solutions that will improve grid performance, reliability, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The funding is available through the Grid Enhancing Technologies solicitation (PON 5848), which can be accessed here.
The Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) program, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), seeks proposals for product development projects, demonstration projects, or research studies. These projects should enable a high-performing electric grid and have the potential to transform the delivery of clean, renewable energy resources. The maximum funding amount is $3 million per product development or demonstration project and $400,000 per research study. Proposals must demonstrate a clear action plan for commercial deployment and address market risks and uncertainties. Additionally, proposals must meet cost share requirements, including 50% for product development and demonstrations and 25% for studies.
Proposals should address one or more of the following challenge areas:
- Transmission Utilization Improvements
- Advanced Conductors
- Modern Infrastructure
- Inverter Based Resource Integration
- Stability
- Protection Systems
- Planning
- Operational Situational Awareness
- Tools for Operator Decision Making
- Assessing Reliability
- Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for Data Analytics
- Improved Maintenance Methods
Proposals are due on July 15, 2025, by 3:00 p.m. E.T. For more information on the funding opportunity please visit NYSERDA’s website or reach out to the NYSERDA contacts for this funding opportunity: Christopher Cheng ([email protected]) and Michael Razanousky ([email protected]).
