The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has announced the availability of up to $4 million in funding to support the development, demonstration, and deployment of Managed Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging technologies. This opportunity, offered through NYSERDA’s EV Managed Charging Program, aims to accelerate the adoption of smart charging solutions that optimize grid performance, reduce emissions, and enhance the customer charging experience. NYSERDA worked with Avangrid to focus the solicitation on providing data that will help inform future utility rate and program planning for EV managed charging.

Funding is available through Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 5963, which seeks proposals from technology developers, researchers, consultants, and other stakeholders working to integrate managed charging into New York’s evolving clean energy landscape. Project proposals must address the Challenge Area described below, which is split into two components. Proposers may address all or a single component of the Challenge Area.

To strengthen EV managed charging programs, proposed solutions should address the following Challenge Area:

  • Expand Integration Capabilities: Includes increasing the number and diversity of EVs that can be included in managed charging programs and reducing reliance on proprietary or telematics-only integrations.
  • Enable Bi-Directional Data and Control: Includes ways to provide a reliable method for collecting accurate, high-resolution charging data and issuing near real-time control signals.

Submitted solutions must:

  • Propose a strategy for enrolling participants, installing or activating equipment, and maintaining participant engagement.
  • Integrate directly with the existing utility program administration platform.
  • Not require a standalone DERMS operated by the utility.
  • Include a data collection framework that aligns with and integrates into the existing program data reporting structure.

Proposals should demonstrate:

  • Clear pathways to commercialization and scalability
  • Quantifiable grid and environmental benefits

The full list of requirements for proposals can be found on the NYSERDA website.

Applications are due September 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. ET. For more information on the funding opportunity please visit NYSERDA’s website or reach out to the NYSERDA contacts for this funding opportunity: Michael Razanousky ([email protected]) and Jim Hastings ([email protected])
