New York State’s clean energy transition depends on a grid that can reliably accommodate increasing renewable generation, inverter-based resources, and evolving customer energy needs. Through the Grid Modernization Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 6149, NYSERDA is making up to $24 million available for product development and demonstration projects that improve the resiliency, reliability, and overall performance of the electric power system. The solicitation seeks technologies that improve grid performance, validate value propositions for the power delivery system, and help address technical and economic barriers to market adoption.

PON 6149 focuses on technologies that support improved transmission utilization, inverter-based resource integration, and operational situational awareness. The topic areas were developed in collaboration with New York utilities through the Advanced Technology Working Group (ATWG) to address challenges associated with operating and planning the future electric grid.

Eligible topic areas include:

    • Advanced Conductors
    • Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning for Data Analytics
    • Modern Infrastructure
    • Advanced Monitoring / Measurement / Controls
    • Protection Planning / Protection Systems
    • Improved Maintenance Practices
    • Planning
    • Advanced Power Electronics
    • Stability
    • Tools for Operator Decision Making
    • Power Flow Optimization
    • Cybersecurity
    • Assessing Reliable/Resilient Operation for Current and Future Grid States
    • Climate or Extreme Weather Resiliency

The solicitation specifically identifies the following topics as ineligible for funding:

    • Flexibility in the Distribution System
    • Deployment of Dynamic Line Rating Technologies

NYSERDA will accept Concept Papers and Full Proposal submissions until 3 pm Eastern Time by September 7th, 2029 (Concept Papers) and by 3:00 PM Eastern Time by November 19th, 2029 (Full Proposals), or until all funds are committed. Proposers must indicate which of the following two categories they are submitting under:

    • Product Development – advancing new or improved grid-enhancing technologies toward commercialization
    • Demonstration – validating the performance and benefits of commercially available solutions in real-world applications

Each award category provides up to $3 million per project and requires a minimum 50% cost share from project teams.
